The air conditioner stops suddenly, is it a malfunction?
If your air conditioner stops during heating operation or no longer blows warm air, this means that heating has been temporarily stopped due to the outdoor unit's defrosting operation.
This is not a malfunction, so please wait for a while.
■ What is defrosting operation?
Moisture in the outside air adheres to the outdoor unit and turns into frost.
When frost forms on the outdoor unit, the heating efficiency decreases, so the heating operation is temporarily stopped and a "defrosting operation" is started to melt the frost.
During defrosting operation, the following symptoms may occur, but please do not worry as these are normal operations.
・The operation lamp flashes and the indoor unit stops blowing warm air.
・There is a hissing or whirring noise coming from the indoor or outdoor unit.
・Water or steam comes out of the outdoor unit.
Once the defrosting operation is complete, the heating operation will automatically resume, but in cold seasons the defrosting operation may be repeated or the warm air output may be stopped for longer periods of time.
To reduce the frequency of defrosting operations, lower the heating temperature setting by 2 to 3 degrees.
■ Precautions when using air conditioners when you are away from home
Please be aware that in particularly cold regions (Tohoku, Nagano Prefecture, etc.), if you leave the heating on while you are away from home, frost will form inside the outdoor unit, which may take a long time to melt or may cause a malfunction.
If the problem persists even after checking the above, please let us know the manufacturer, model number, and detailed symptoms using the Equipment Repair Request Form.
If your unit stops after a certain time regardless of the operation menu (heating, cooling, etc.), please check the following.
・Check that the off timer is not set.
If the off timer is set, turn it off.
※ The operation method varies depending on the manufacturer and model of the air conditioner or universal remote control (multi-remote control).
Click here for the air conditioner's instruction manual.
The air conditioner installed may have a "3-hour automatic timer."
If operation stops after about 3 hours, this is due to a timer and is not a malfunction.
Please turn the unit on again or cancel the 3-hour timer.
